Henry has a blanket blueWorn as soft as morning dewOne good corner in your handThat is all the world you plannedIt has been to grandma's chairIt has been on every stairIt has caught a hundred tearsIt has held you all these yearsHush now Henry hold it nearBlue and soft and nearly bareHush now Henry close your eyesSomeone loves you everywhereEvery thread has heard you sleepEvery thread will keep it deepWash it dry it hang it highIt will still be here nearbyHush now Henry hold it nearBlue and soft and nearly bareHush now Henry close your eyesSomeone loves you everywhere

Where the name comes from

Henry comes from the Germanic Heimirich, usually translated as 'home ruler' or 'ruler of the household' - one of the most consistently popular names across European history.

Why this moment matters

A single object worn thin from years of holding on says more about a childhood than almost anything else in the room.

The story behind this song

A soft, worn blue blanket comes to bed with him every night, corners rubbed thin from years of holding on.

A bedtime song with a name in it

A slow lullaby built around one child's name: a good night song for bedtime, nap time and the last song of the day.
