The first snow came the year you cameIt gathered on the window sillTheodore we said your nameAnd all the garden held it stillThe morning turned a softer whiteAnd kept it there till evening lightYour hand lay open on the glassThe frost was drawing quiet linesYou watched the whole slow morning passAnd found the world already kindThe kettle sang behind the doorAnd still the snow came down for moreTheodore the snow came downThe year had turned to bring you hereTheodore we said your nameAnd it will keep you all the yearOne day the snow will not surpriseYou will have boots and better plansAnd you will go outside to meetThe winter with your open handsBut somewhere in the boy you growWill keep this window and this snowTheodore the snow came downThe year had turned to bring you hereTheodore we said your nameAnd it will keep you all the year

Where the name comes from
