The Year Turns for Olivia lyrics

Lyrics

Personalize this song

Olivia the morning knows your nameThe window fills with early quiet goldThe garden wakes and every leaf is newThe river finds its slow and silver roadAnd all the world is waiting to be toldThe summer lays a warm hand on the grassThe swallows write their circles in the blueThe evening comes as gentle as a handAnd carries all the daylight home to youOlivia the year turns like a wheelFrom blossom white to amber to the snowAnd every turn will find you standing tallAnd every turn will love you as you growOlivia one day you will walk aloneYour shoes will find the road beyond the gateThe apple trees will dress in white againAnd we will keep a candle and a plateOlivia the year turns like a wheelFrom blossom white to amber to the snowAnd every turn will find you standing tallAnd every turn will love you as you grow

Where the name comes from

Olivia is closely associated with the olive branch and, by extension, peace - the name is often credited to Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, though isolated earlier uses exist, and its exact relationship to Oliver is debated among name historians.

Why this moment matters

The day a child walks out the gate alone for the first time tends to arrive quietly, without anyone quite being ready for it.

The story behind this song

Apple trees in blossom, the river running past, and one bright day she walks out of the gate entirely on her own.
