Where the name comes from

Charlotte is the French feminine form of Charles, which goes back to the Germanic karl, usually glossed as 'free man' - it spread widely in English through royal use in the 18th century.

Why this moment matters

A burnt first pancake and a queue of hungry plates is exactly the kind of ordinary Sunday a family ends up remembering the longest.

The story behind this song

The pan is hot, Dad's first pancake comes out burnt black, and the whole family waits with plates while Charlotte watches the batter go round.

A song with a big sister or big brother

A big sister or big brother joins in here, so it works as a sibling song the whole family can sing.
