Первым летом ты МиланаIn your first summer MilanaНе умела даже встатьYou could not even stand upА подсолнухи стоялиAnd the sunflowers stood thereВыше чем твоя кроватьTaller than your own bedМы носили тебя в полеWe carried you out to the fieldЧтобы это показатьJust to show you thisСтолько жёлтых шляп над полемSo many yellow hats over the fieldЧто нельзя пересчитатьThat you could not count themВсе они глядят на солнцеAll of them looking at the sunИ не думают устатьAnd never thinking of tiringТы глядела вверх и щурясьYou looked up squintingИ пыталась их достатьAnd tried to reach themМилана вот твоё летоMilana this is your summerПодсолнухи выше насThe sunflowers taller than usМилана вот твоё летоMilana this is your summerМы запомнили тот часWe remembered that hourЧерез несколько короткихIn a few short yearsЛет обгонишь их в ростуYou will overtake them in heightБудешь бегать между нимиYou will run about between themИ срывать по одномуAnd pick them one by oneА однажды остановишьсяAnd one day you will stopИ припомнишь почемуAnd remember whyМилана вот твоё летоMilana this is your summerПодсолнухи выше насThe sunflowers taller than usМилана вот твоё летоMilana this is your summerМы запомнили тот часWe remembered that hour

Where the name comes from

Milana is often connected to the old Slavic root mil, meaning 'dear' or 'gracious' - the same root behind related names like Milena, though Milana itself is a comparatively modern addition to that family of names.

Why this moment matters

Standing beneath something taller than yourself for the first time is one of the earliest ways a child discovers how small they still are, and how big the world is.

The story behind this song

Her first summer brings sunflowers already taller than she is, and she stands beneath them looking straight up in wonder.
