Where the name comes from

Ashley comes from an Old English place name usually read as 'ash tree clearing' - a landscape name that became a surname and then a first name.

Why this moment matters

Spitting watermelon seeds is a summer contest every family seems to invent on its own - silly, a bit messy and allowed only on the porch.

The story behind this song

On a summer afternoon Ashley sits on the back porch with a cold pink slice of watermelon, puckering up to blow the black seeds as far as they will go.
